advice you didn't ask for

when you don’t know where you’re going…

Sometimes we make changes in our lives for a clear cut reason. We know what is that we want or we don’t want and we make the change. Easy. Other times, we make changes for some reason but we aren’t completely sure what that reason is. Maybe you are unhappy and you don’t know what is missing so you make changes but aren’t even sure if those changes will end up creating the magic that you are looking for. BUT, if you make your choices for you and for not for someone else’s sake, then you are on the right track. So, with that being said, my advice for the day might make you think I’m ridiculous at first but the more you think about it the more you will love it. Trust me.

I was like you, staring at the screen and literally saying out loud “What the fuck?, this is the worst advice I have ever heard in my life”. And now I am passing it along. I could not have received this advice at a better time in my life and yes, I asked for it. I was living in Thailand and wondering what my next move would be because I was ready to leave there (mainly I just did not want to ride out another monsoon season). So, I had to decide what I wanted to do and I had several options. Move back to the states, move to Guam for less than a year before my cousin got moved somewhere else by the air force, move to Dubai to work on a private yacht, or none of the above and make up some other plan. I emailed my dad and laid out every option with long drawn out thoughts about why I wanted to do each one and why not, It was an extremely detailed email and I waited on the edge of me seat for his response because surely he would tell me which one to choose and then problem solved. Welp, a few days later I got an email back and I waited to open it until I was home from work so I could take it all in and really give it my full attention. I was shocked to open to email and see only two sentences…”Darling, when you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there. I love you.”

I stared at the screen in disbelief but don’t worry, I thanked him eventually when I realized how true it is.
